The Rotary Young Chef Competition is a national competition with several rounds ending in a national final. Our club has run an initial round of this event in November every year for the last 10 years. The event is staged at Oaklands College. There are three judges all of whom are professional chefs.

Contestants are between 11 and 17 years of age. We are in touch with all the secondary schools in St Albans and many put forward their pupils to compete. Students can, however, apply to us directly if their school is not taking part.

The task is to produce a two course meal for two people in 90 minutes for less than £15 and present it on table. Our winner goes on to the District competition in February/ March of the following year where a three course meal has to be cooked.
